Recovering from the Mets past season…..

I almost felt like i had a hangover today, trying to deal with i had just watched my favorite sports team do, for the 2nd time in 2 years.  Blow a lead in the last part of the season, and miss their chance at a run at the World Series.  Last year sucked HARD, worse then this by far, but still, the up and down season that they had has left me exhausted and irritable.

I was sitting in our promotions office today, talking to the guy who gives you your concert tickets, Promo Pete, trying to figure out what the Mets should do in the offseason.  We went back and forth alot, keep reyes, dump beltran, light the 2nd base bag on fire.

I settled on these changes:

Keep wright and reyes

trade beltran

cut delgado before he dooms us with another awful first half of the season

start the bullpen from scratch, but keep joe smith.

find a way to get daniel murphy into EVERY SINGLE GAME, and cutting castillo.

clone johan??  is that possible yet?

so, what do  you think should be done?  what moves would you be making if you were omar minaya?

Apocalyptica: THE greatest thing ever seen.lol

SO Friday on my show I had the honor, and the sheer spectacle of APOCALYPTICA live in the studio during my show as my sort of Letterman/Conan like house band. If you don’t know their story these guys are classically trained (as in they learned to play classical music, studied at a prestigious conservatory in Finland) yet somehow could never get the metal out of their veins. They play cello,….yes, CELLO> They started out doing only Metallica covers, did I mention it’s all on cello?. They then expanded to Sepultura, faith no more, etc, and then began to do their own originals. Most of those who know them know them for their Metallica covers which have included everything from “Enter sandman”, to “Nothing else matters”, “One” and so on. SO they played in my studio for most of the day Friday and I could not believe the sounds that these guys were getting out of a bunch of cellos. Then I went to see them that night at Nokia, and if you replaced the cellos with guitars, you would be watching a textbook metal band. Watch this as they rip through “seek and Destroy”. The night i saw them they managed to recreate the guitar solo almost verbatim, ON CELLO!!!. There are many versions of the song floating around, I picked this one from Mexico City because the audio seemed the best. They bang their heads like any other metal band, this is seriously one of the strangest, weirdest, yet most amazing things I have ever seen.

Little Britain USA

For those of you with HBO, make sure you check out this new series, it’s been massive in the UK for ages.  I mentioned on air that most people in England aren’t actually like the characters in this show – rememer it’s not a documentary!  However, in this case, they got it pretty spot on!  I’m always moaning that people are rude and there’s no service in England, this sketch happens in London for real every day!

R.I.P “Cool hand Luke”

You know I’m not one of those people who bums out when a celebrity dies because honestly why should their lives be any more precious than that of anyone else?/ However I have to say that im pretty bummed about Paul Newman who passed away over the weekend of cancer at 83. In a world filled with movie stars (basically people who look good and can spit out a sentence on cue), Paul Newman was a artist, just watch “Cool Hand Luke” , you watch that and just see the quiet, understated cool at work not to mention it’s a classic and one of the more entertaining films you’ll see (put that in your netflix queue).

The thing that bums me out is that here was a guy who was a true philanthropist……… You’ve probably seen the Newman’s own stuff when you’re in Path mark or wherever you shop.  Paul Newman put his name on everything from BBQ sauce, to dog food, to Microwave popcorn. You name it and he makes it. What you may not know is that he GAVE AWAY ALL OF THE MONEY TO CHARITY!. Think about it, that is probably the most selfless and yet “Gangsta” things anyone could do. Here’s this guy making these products that bring in hundreds of millions if dollars, and he’s basically said ” Give it ALL to charity, I don’t need it, Im already rich, put my face on the bottles of everything and watch it fly off the shelves”, and that is exactly what happened. I mean,  who does that?……. Bill Gates?… Oprah?………yeah they give away millions, but they’re both BILLIONAIRES and as much as we would all love to be lowly millionaires like Newman, most people who become millionaires remain millionaires by keeping every dime that comes to them. Most would never even think to build factories, turn a huge profit and then say ok now give it all away to orphans, global warming research, inner city schools, aids research, all the stuff that the government just cant seem to get around to finding the money for. On top of all of it he makes some of the most righteous microwave popcorn that you’lll ever chomp on.

Paul Newman, not just some old time actor, a man’s man, a philanthropist, and a man that “can eat 50 eggs”, gone.

Difference in sound quality for ‘Death Magnetic’

Check out the difference in compression for the CD version of Death Magnetic compared to the Guitar Hero version.

Now they’re trying to push us into buying the downloaded versions of albums over the CDs? ? ? ?

Here’s the story.

From the I Seen it All Dept.

I don’t know how they do it but local television news reporters find the dumbest people to interview for their stories. This guy is a gem. He’s a witness to something on television, given that he’s a dummy. But his parents are dull knives as well.

If any man was tailor made for a career in being an eye witness to neighborhood trouble, this would be him!

the grapes of TOOL!

When not making music with Tool, Puscifer, A perfect Circle, etc, Maynard can be found hanging out on his property in Sedona Arizona sipping the nectar of the grape.. A sprawling Camelot like spread which is mainly a vineyard. The guy is seriously into WINE. Some artists have huge wine cellars that are as large as most of our apartments, not Maynard though, he’s got a vineyard where he makes his own wine. Maynard along with his and partner in wine Eric Glomski stopped by Whole Foods in Venice California to sign bottles  of the good stuff from their wineries Caduceus Cellars, Merkin Vinyards, and Arizona Stronghold. Ive been to a lot of meet and greets where rock stars were signing things for their fans in my time at Tower records, Virgin megastore, even at sporting goods stores. Maynard signing wine bottles at Whole foods is a new one!

Bottoms up!

One more reason that Tina Fey is GOD!

Like many other people Im usually not home on Saturday nights which included last Saturday night when this bit of comedic genius erupted. I kept hearing about it on everything from CNN, to MSNBC, to Fox news during the political coverage, all about how dead on Tina Fey was with her Palin impression. The second I saw Gov. Palin on TV I knew the wheels had to be turning over at 30 Rock with frantic emails with the subject line “GET TINA BACK FOR A SKETCH” as the headline flying out of Loren Michael’s computer!.  So I finally searched this out on youtube and while Amy Pohler does Hillary Clinton again, Tina Fey is frighteningly accurate as Sarah Palin. Wherever you stand politically, during what Ive noticed to be one of the most rancorous political fights that I ever remember in my entire life, it’s good to finally have a good laugh at it all!. Oh my god when  Clinton mentions the Bush doctrine, the Palin reaction made me spit beer all over ny monitor!
