It just gets more “Bizarre” but its the best show ever!

I cannot believe I spend so much time watching the Travel Channel. WHY? “Bizarre foods with Andrew Zimmern!.

The basic premise is this slightly chunky, quirky, dude, Andrew Zimmern who is a chef himself, travels the world and just eats. AND OH WHAT HE EATS!; He eats that which is strange to our sophisticated western palettes, however that are completely commonplace wherever he is. Examples?…He’s eaten stir fried silk worms in Viet Nam along with giant hissing cockroaches, Guinea Pig in Ecuador, Iguana which they went into the jungle and shot out of a tree, took home and prepared on camera in Tobago, FRIED SCORPION COMPLETE WITH THE STINGER, in Taiwan!.

Here in NYC he went to some upscale downtown sushi place where they ate the sushi as it was still kicking! as in ALIVE. They crack open the back of a Lobster, and are eating the meat out of it with chopsticks, as the little antennae are still flipping around, it was the weirdest, MOST EXCELLENT thing ever!. He’s eaten fried Snake skin, he’s eaten the beating heart of a snake as it was ripped out of the snake at the same restaurant where he had the fried snake skin, he’s eaten worms of every description. TARANTULAS, Octopus stewed in it’s own ink… Again all prepared in restaurants or in people’s homes, I mean cooked like we would grille a steak without thinking twice about it! Intestines, brains, testicles of everything from sheep to bull, I mean it’s at times a little nausea inducing but almost always funny!. Bats, oh yeah he’s eaten Bats with Chilli sauce, he’s eaten Armadillo, he’s eaten tadpoles!. I could go on but it has to be seen to be believed.

Here is a pic from the show, he’s the bald dude in the orange shirt picking out the snake, who’s heart he is just about to eat, and skin, and meat in snake spring rolls…..Check your local listings. Seriously; along with ESPN Classic, THIS is why I have digital cable!

I completely agree that this is a “grossly” addictive show, some of the things he eats are simply outrageous! What’s becoming a bigger, more fascinating addiction, however, is Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations…if you watch Bizarre Foods, there’s no doubt in my mind that you’ve seen this. Completely hilarious! I love Bourdain’s total disregard, period. He just doesn’t give a sh*t about who’s offended by what he says, and writes, since he narrates the show. I can’t hide the fact that he’s always looking for a drink…and he’s gotten stinken drunk on this show numerous times; too funny, the things that come out of his mouth. He may not eat as many “bizarre foods” as Zimmern, but every once in a while I have to turn away. Check it out, if you haven’t already. Later.
