Me? A man-crush on Simon Pegg?

I disagree! I just happen to really enjoy that dudes work.

Think about it.

Shaun of the Dead? You laughed your ass off. That is, without a doubt, one of my top 5 movies of all time. Hell, I was Shaun for halloween.

Hot Fuzz? EVERYTHING that a good mocking movie should be. And he kicks an old lady in the throat.

Run, Fat Boy, Run. Despite David Shwimmer directing it, funny ass flick.

HOWEVER, there was life before zombie flicks for Simon Pegg. He was in a show called “Spaced”. I ran into the show when I was in Scotland for spring break one year.

Basically, simon’s character needs a place to stay, and he winds up pretending he’s in a relationship with a girl named Daisy, to move into a nice place that requires a “working couple”. no singles, fooker.

Anywho, the fiance bought me the box set of said tv show for muh birfday, but it’s a region 2 disc. the US is region 1. luckily, i’m enough on an anglo-phile that i would own a multi-region dvd player.

HOWEVER, the boxset is being released for region 1, ANNNNNNNNNNNND they’re playing it on BBC America.

seriously, funny as balls. the paintball episode and free form art episode are CLASSIC. you cant call yourself a simon pegg fan without owning that show.

PWNED!

Remember: the enemies gate is DOWN.

I was 11.  7th grade in I.S. 34, Tottenville, Staten Island.  It was my english class’s turn to head to the book fair.  Most of it was utter crap.  The same juvenile, pander to the pre-teen angst ridden middle schooler bull$#!t books.  You’re either too old for the “Tales of a Second Grade Nothing” type books, or too young for the really awful crap they were going to shove down your throats in high school.  (”The Good Earth”?  Eff Wang Lung and O-Lan.  The only book i hated more was “Nectar in a Sieve”)

I was wandering around, wondering what i was going to waste my much loved/saved up lump of lunch money.  A few of my friends were walking up to the counter with “Jurassic Park”  so i caved to the ever present book lovers peer pressure and bought the book.

By the way, i love that book.  And the movie still kicks ass.  That jumpy glass of water?  Classic.

As i walked up to the counter, my eye was captured by the cover of a book.  It was kinda futuristic, some type of weird craft on the cover, and on top, in big bold letters, the title.  “Ender’s Game”.

i thought it was an interesting looking cover, and it sounded ominous enough, so i went ahead and spent a week’s cookie rationing on the novel by Orson Scott Card.

i can honestly say that THAT was the book that started my epic reading craze.  by the time i had reached 18, i’d read more books then most people would in their lifetimes.  i still spend between 50-100 bucks a week at various bookstores, going through novels in about 2-3 days.  also, i like to switch around, get as much story as possible.

“enders game” is about super brilliant kids.  the future of humanity is dependent on these little geniuses growing up and becoming the commanders of the next inter-orbit fleet.  sound geeky?  well duh.  have you met me?  have u ever seen my blogs on battlestar galactica?

however, when you read the book, it’s MUCH more about the relationships that develop in the book, then about science fiction.  i honestly wouldn’t want to tell you more, because you really need to experience the book.  i would never take away from someone reading that.  it’s THAT good a story.

i’ve bought that book 3 times now.  my original copy wore out at least 10 years ago.  i’ve lent it to so many friends that i had to buy another one when my 2nd copy didnt make it’s way back to my bookshelf.  i’ve read almost everything else that card has published, and it’s all been worth it.  but i still come back to that book.  my cousin and i actually make references to it when speaking to each other.  matter of fact, the title of this blog is just such a reference.  (jeremy would understand).

i still read the book on average of 3 times a year.

which is why im so FREAKING psyched that it’s being made into a graphic novel.

http://www.zooped.com/2008/04/20/enders-game-comics-coming-from-marvel/

i can only hope that it does justice to the book.  i’d actually be kind of disappointed if this eventually led to a movie.  theres no way in hell that a movie can do justice to the intracacies of that story.

anyway, as u can tell, i’m a total fanboy.  but do yourself a favor.  go read the book.

Yet another example of people thinking they’re great at everything….

cause they’re good at SOMETHING.

what am i talking about?  think back.  there’s plenty of celebrities who seem to think they have the ability to do EVERYTHING, since they can do SOMETHING.

lindsay lohan made an album.  please dont ever again.

arnold schwarnwdlgkwhoozit is the governor of caleefouneea.

paris hilton tried to not sleep with every b-level celebrity and oil tycoon trustfund baby.

britney spears tried to go to college.

ok, i made that last one up.  she couldnt get fill out the paperwork correctly.

but, WHY OH WHY do people think they’re sooooooooo effing great something, when they should be concentrating on what they CAN do.

me, i’m content.  i’m a dj.  i can barely hold THAT down, i dont need to go pretending im a doctor or a librarian.

so WHYYYYYYY hayden?  just sit back, look f*cking phenomenal on heroes, and let the residuals roll in.

*sigh*

Yes, i do indeed <3 vinyl.

a little while ago, i was talking about how much i wanted to buy the vinyl edition of NIN’s new albumd, “the slip”. i’m a bit of a collector, and in my personal opinion, vinyl sounds better to me.

i stumbled across this article at cnet.com, about how vinyl records are actually MADE.

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13772_3-9977878-52.html?tag=st.top

so, we’ve now managed to combine 2 of my obsessions. music and that damn show “How It’s Made” on the science and discovery channels.

that show has me so addicted its not even funny. it’s like stewie with his hynosis glasses when it comes on. they’re talking about stuff i have no interest in whatsoever, or dont even understand what it does in real life, but i can NOT look away!

it’s also helpful that my dad has about 37 1/2 hours of that stuff dvr’ed, so when the fiance and i visit, i dont converse anymore. i just sit there with this dumb look on my face, eyes glazed over and drooling slightly….and since i look like that normally, you cant tell im not paying attention to the conversation.

im sneaky like that.

Ask Ian, I’m a certified Anglo-phile.

i think its actually possible for me to recite the entire SHOW of monty python word for word.  all 4 seasons it.  i was raised to admire the british race car, i wanna drive a mini, i spent a spring break in edinburgh scotland, and several years ago, i actually applied to the bbc.  i love the music, london, the fact that they call apartments “flats” and flashlights “torches”.  id beam bbc america straight into my brain if at all possible, and i’ve spent more on doctor who dvd sets then i care to think about.

i also freaking LOVE guy ritchie films.  cept for the one with his wife in it (madonna).  lock, stock and two smoking barrels is complete sheer frikkin genius on the scale of which i can barely comprehend, and snatch, with brad pitt in it, is one of the most completely enjoyable movies i have ever set my eyes on.

which is why i’m ridiculously happy that he’s back in the game.  his new movie “rocknrolla” is about to hit theaters, and if u havent seen any of the films that i quoted up there, you should look at the trailer.

(besides, thandie newton is in the film.  damn staight!)

Never EVER doubt Rivers Cuomo.

He’s like The Force.  He can go away for awhile, but he’ll always come back, and not necessarily how you think he would.

Like in the current incarnation of Weezer.  He’s got a porn-stache.

ALSO, he had some new material for a song, and he wanted some fan input.  So, he went ahead and posted pieces of the music on YouTube (my second youtube reference in as many days….must be a record or something) and had fans comment on what they had heard so far.  So he tweaked and responded, the fans listened and let him know what they thought some more.  Further tweaking and tinkering commenced, and in the end, came up with a damn good song.

It’s a little ditty going by the name “Turnin’ Up The Radio” and its pretty catchy.  Exactly what you’d expect from latter day Rivers.  Lotsa references to pop culture and how it’s all bunk in the end.

Oh, wait?  You wanna hear it?  Good thing the vid is just below this line of text.  Enjoy!

Ya know, if I tried to come up with a song, with listener interaction, I get the feeling it would sound like 2 angry, underfed felines having very angry sex.  I mean, if thats what you’re into.

Sicko.

Wait, I need a Nik Carter comment….ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

It would sound like Nik Carter singing?  WHAMMO!

OOOOH! That looks cool! Ima gonna do that too!

so i know that youtube, in it’s very worst, is a vast open wasteland of copycats.  why do you say THAT schwenker?  2 words.

chocolate rain.

anywho, im VERY glad we have that aspect of youtube for this very instance.  do you know the wii hula girl?  the person who was supposedly taped on the sly by her boyfriend, doing some gyrations to wii hula hoop, and looking good while doing it?

well if you dont know what i’m talking about, here’s a refresher course:

ok.  and now for the copycats:

that would be playboy cyber girl of the year Jo Garcia.

obviously, this is the beauty of youtube.  but i would like to say, on the RECORD, that if i happen to see nik carter in boy shorts, doing some goofy yoga type crap to the wii,  we’ll be able to see what happens when someone lights a macbook on fire.

Sweet! Now Nik Carter can get a date!

Apparently, in the year 2050, some guy thinks we’re gonna be having relationships with robots. Anyone else notice how this article does NOT have the guy’s photo on it? seriously. what if he was just hoping out loud. sitting in his cubicle, popping his zits, arguing online about the possibilities that the show “heroes” was based on facts and figuring out which senior center he’s going to tonight with good ole mom for bingo…. and suddenly WHAMMO! sex-robots.

he’d tried hitting on the AI fem-bots on xbox 360 AND ps3, but even they dont pay much attention to him. so he’s dreaming of some commodore 64 with an emotion chip (futurama reference) to give him some tender tender electrobyte lovin.

*wait for the cheesy comment*

*waiiiiiiiit for it!*

better wrap it in plastic holmes, that computer virus aint cured be penicillin. HI-YO!

I pretty much despise the show “The Hills”

how could i not?  it spawned the careers of heidi montag, and spencer pratt.  (who might just be the perfect example of what happens when genetics declares war on the human race)

Epic editing fail!

but also, i find it annoying.  seriously.  those women make me wanna put my head through plate glass window.

HOWEVER!

if the show was 30 minutes of THIS:

i’d watch.  24/7. and buy all the products they advertised during it.  twice.

My BSG obsession knows no bounds

i was bouncing around a couple blogs the other day, and came across a VERY interesting idea.  John McCain is a cylon, from battlestar.

i’m not gonna get into the details, i’ll just let the picture speak for itself.

yup. he’s saul tigh.  and tigh is a cylon.  no good.  epic fail for humanity.

BUT.  his wife cindy just seemed to remind me of someone.  i couldnt figure it out for the life of me…and then it dawned on me……

VOLDEMORT!!!!!

im sorry. regardless of your political affiliation, i think having a a drunken robot and an evil wizard living in the white house would be bad for us, as a nation.
