Crazy Train

So Friday night I’m on the train home from work, having an onboard “happy hour” with my commuting buddies when:

Yep! We hit a car full on!! Talk about kicking off the weekend with a bang…

Lesson learned: When using mass transit always be prepared, carry an extra bottle of booze.

Snowblind in NJ

A beer bottle from the last BBQ of summer ‘07 works great as a measuring stick…

Giant night on KRock

Big thanks to all the Giants fans who celebrated the unbelievable win last night with me “virtually” in the KRock studio!

It was great to hear from all of you, and to be able to lose my voice screaming with you during that roller coaster ride of a game! :)

YEAH GIANTS!!!

Challenger

Whoa…22 years ago today the Challenger exploded!

*Note: Same year as “Master of Puppets” by Metallica was released, 1986.

If you’re too young to have witnessed this event, a spaceship carrying 7 astronauts took off and then blew up, as America watched. If you were in school at the time, they had completely obsessed over the fact that we were going to have a teacher in space, and I think she was going to give us the first lesson from space via satellite (which is really exciting stuff when you’re a 3rd grader, and the internet wasn’t even around yet.)

So a few seconds after lift off… it explodes, and teachers all over the country had the job of telling all these wide eyed kids watching or waiting in classrooms that the thing blew up and the astronauts were all dead. Kinda weird but this was to us what the Kennedy assassination was to our parents. We all remember where we were, and it brought the whole country together in complete horror.

*Note: For those of you that were too young, back then the space program was still exciting, and Americans actually cared about it…like the Olympics (yes they used to be a big deal!)

I guess kids today will have 9/11 to screw them up. And just like the media re-showed the planes slamming the towers over and over, we got to watch footage of a rocket blowing up over, and over, and over again. I guess that’s why we’re so eco-conscious. We kinda realized early on that we’re probably gonna be stuck on this planet for while…

“…Rocket engines burning fuel so fast
Up into the night sky so vast
Burning metal through the atmosphere
Earth remains in worry, hate and fear…”
-Black Sabbath
