Get well Travis! Here’s how you can email him!

USUALLY……….I hate it when people especially dj’s name drop but I’m about to do just that, sorry, please forgive me but it is for a decent cause. Ive known Travis Barker for years, he’s one of the quiet ones that tends to sort of play the background in most social situations, smiles like a little kid a lot and is generally a really nice dude. Because he was so well known for Blink 192 (a band that i still love!) I do think some people sort of dismissed him as well, some inked guy in a pop band. KNOW THIS; Travis Barker is one of the most fierce drummers around and not just when it comes to the pop punk stuff, if you ever saw him tour with Transplants you know this. In addition to the many other bands he’s sat in with over the years. At times he can resemble “Animal” from the old Muppet show on the drums, he’s like an octopus with sticks in his hands!.   At this point you’ve probably heard about the plane crash and how both Travis and DJ AM were involved, a couple of people did not survive but Travis sustained burns on his lower torso, and DJ Am burned his face and arm, details are a little sketchy depending on which site or news organization reports it. THe bottom line is that both Travis and DJ Am are in “stable but critical” condition in the hospital. They’re both in a place that specializes in burns, it’s actually the Still burn center of Augusta Georgia. If you would like to reach out to Travis or DJ AM (real name Adam Goldstein) you can do that here:  friends  or fans of Barker and AM can shout them out via email through the hospital’s Web site,www. Doctors-Hospital.net. Click on “Visitors,” then “Email a Patient.”. Get well soon you two!

These Are Pretty Cool………..

They are Skull Candy Metallica headphones.  A lot of people are saying the mastered sound on the CD version of Death Magnetic isn’t as good as the sound on the Guitar Hero version of the album.  Maybe using these Metallica cans is the way to listen to the new album.

I still don’t think as the ultimate band merch they beat my Iron Maiden lunchbox though.  Although they’re clearly better than the Death Magnetic beach balls Metallica have been giving away during their shows.

from the get these guys a cape dept.

This week I have two musical acts that I am looking up to as heroes.

1. Paul McCartney – He is standing his ground on playing the scheduled concert on the 25th in celebration of the independence of Israel even though he was specifically named in a terrorist threat video by extremist Islamic leader Omar Bakri. This takes real guts on Paul’s part. Most groups would pull out of the engagement immediately, but not Sir Paul, and that earns big respect from me.

2. The Cure – They are telling their fans in England NOT to buy their new EP Hypnagogic States from iTunes because they are charging way too much for it. Five songs for 7.99 pounds, roughly 16 to 17 dollars for five songs! The people in charge of iTunesUK promised to have it fixed today, but that shows real integrity of Robert Smith to actually not want to rip fans off.

Other bands, please take note: sometimes it not all about you.

Rock N Roll Dedication

Check out the news paper article on the guy who grew a beard for the entire five years between Saint Anger and Death Magnetic.  He got James Hetfield to shave it off upon Metallica releasing their new album…..

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article1702764.ece

That’s quite some dedication to Metallica.  This afternoon I wanna hear about stories of Rock N Roll dedication.  How far have you or someone you know gone in support of your favorite band?  Text me with the details after 3pm at NY923.  Thanks.

Oasis, the video

We were all disappointed by the cancellation of the Oasis terminal 5 show last Friday night and the story we heard was that Noel was still nursing his injured back. His back was injured when he was “assaulted” on stage on September 8th at the V fest in Toronto. Now there is talk of Oasis scrapping their entire world tour! This would be a shame and while I sympathize with the Gallagher’s ( I mean after Dimebag Darrel a few  years ago Im sure it makes anyone in a band pretty freaked out when their space (the stage) is invaded). I had only read abut the “assault” third hand and of course had not seen it until now. The striking thing is that the crowd does not seem to be angry as much as they’re cheering the guy on!. THat is not cool but then again watch the video, does it seem like an injury that could sideline an entire tour?. To his credit Noel did come back onstage and soldier on through the end of the set. Here is the incident in slow motion………..”assault”? “attack”? or a sadly typical drunken pin head just being a drunken pin head?.

The Cult

Just wanted to write something about The Cult show at the Fillmore last night.  I was saying on air last week if you were disappointed Oasis didn’t play Terminal 5 you should get your Brit Rock fix from The Cult, and if you were at the show you’ll know I wasn’t wrong.

What a gig.  The Cult have the catelogue to make sure their live show is always good, but they sounded great last night and Ian’s voice was probably the strongest I’ve ever heard him.  If you were unfamiliar with the newer songs go check out Born Into This (their album from last year), the four songs from that merged seamlessly with She Sells Sanctuary, Fire Woman, Sweet Soul Sister etc.

I always admired The Cult, cos being a Brit who desperately wanted to move to America I liked the way they had some hits over here, moved to the States and never looked back – cos if you’re English and you like Rock it IS better here!  The fact they’re still as electric (sorry, couldn’t resist that) in their adopted home 20 years is testament to the fact if you’ve got the songs you’ve got the longevety.

Scott Weiland, “Happy”?..NO DOUBT he is!

So ten years ago in 1998 Scott Weiland released his first solo album “12 bar blues” ……mostly because he had been thrown out of STP (the first time) and he needed something to do with his time. Otherwise you know what they say: Idle hands are the devil’s helpers, I mean who knows what could have happened to poor Scott, he could have ended up in a spiraling descent into drugs, jail, and…er,………hmm,…..well; Forget I said anything. Anyway his second solo album “Happy” is scheduled to be released in November of this year. Interesting turn of events it will include guest appearances by the members of no doubt pictured here, actually it will feature guest appearances by everyone in this photo except the one with the pink hair.

If history is any indicator, seeing as Weiland is on a ten year cycle for solo releases, we should expect his next solo album in 2018…….providing he lives that long.
